Hi friends, Alicia here. Every year around this time, someone asks me, "Should we just wait until spring?" It's a fair question. Between football Fridays, Thanksgiving plans, and holiday programs at school, a move can feel like one more thing on a very full plate. But after helping Wiregrass families since 2009, I can tell you the holiday season can be a smart time to make a move, for buyers and sellers alike.
For buyers: less noise, more focus
The buyers who are out looking in November and December are usually serious. They've got a reason to move, and so do the sellers they're working with. That often means more honest conversations, more flexible timelines, and sellers who are ready to talk. You may also find it easier to schedule showings and get quicker answers from lenders, inspectors, and title companies before the new-year rush.
Here at home, the numbers back that up. In Enterprise, the median home sold for about $248,000 over the three months ending in September 2026, down 2.2% from a year earlier, and homes took a median of 68 days to sell, compared with 55 days the year before (source: Redfin, September 2026). That extra breathing room means you can take your time, compare your options, and negotiate with confidence.
A few tips if you're shopping this season:
- Get pre-approved first. It makes your offer stronger and helps you move quickly when the right home pops up.
- Look past the decorations. Ask about the roof, the HVAC, and the age of the water heater. Cooler weather is a great time to see how a home heats.
- Plan your closing date around the calendar. Holidays can slow down offices, so build a little cushion into your timeline.
For sellers: your home has never looked cozier
A home that feels warm and welcoming in November photographs beautifully. Keep the decor simple and tasteful, let in as much natural light as you can, and make sure walkways and porch lights are in good shape since it gets dark earlier. Buyers this time of year are motivated, and with fewer homes competing for attention, a well-prepared listing can really stand out.
For military families: orders don't wait for spring
As a former military spouse, I know PCS orders show up whenever they show up, and that includes the holidays. If you're heading to Fort Rucker this winter, or leaving the Wiregrass for your next duty station, you don't have to put your plans on hold. As a Military Relocation Professional (MRP), I help families with VA loan guidance, virtual showings when you can't be here in person, and a plan that fits your report date. If you're on holiday block leave, that can even be a great window to tour homes in person.
My honest take
There's no perfect season to move, only the right season for your family. If the holidays are when life is telling you it's time, I'd love to help you make it feel a little less stressful and a lot more exciting. Whether you're buying in Enterprise, Dothan, Ozark, or Daleville, or getting your home ready to sell, let's sit down (or hop on a call) and map out a plan.
